Ideas for a budget friendly Valentine’s Day
Valentine's Day is upon us and many are searching for the perfect way to celebrate. While the holiday brings about the thoughts of fancy dinners, sparkling jewelry and beautiful bouquets of flowers, there are many options for Valentine's Day fun that won't break the bank. 1. Pack a lunch and go on a picnic, if the weather is nice. If the day is chilly, bring that picnic indoors, spreading a blanket on the living room floor and enjoying a picnic lunch with your sweetheart.

Reader’s Corner: The fireside poets
On winter evenings, one of my favorite things to do is curl up in a cozy chair near our fireplace to read. And recently, I’ve rediscovered that I like reading poetry, including a group of American poets who likely earned their nickname because people in the 1800s enjoyed reading their poems while spending time by the fire. Most commonly referred to under this heading are Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, John Greenleaf Whittier, Oliver Wendell Holmes, James Russell Lowell and Wi

Reflections: My mom, Acts 12 and me
The month of February is always a contemplative time for me. It’s the birth month of my biological mother, who died when I was just four years old, and also of my amazing stepmother, in my life from age six until her passing in 2010. Valentine’s Day brings more memories, as both my stepmom and my husband’s late mom loved to send cards and bake cookies. My best memories of my stepmother are of her faithfulness in reading the Bible and teaching me the importance of doing so

Dr. Richard Baker, AIF®, is the CEO and executive wealth advisor at Fervent Wealth Management. It snowed several inches in our area this past weekend, and I thought today about how much I enjoyed seeing where kids had been sledding during my drive. Some found big hills, and others were sliding down some dinky hills. The U.S. dollar as a currency must have found one doozy of a hill because it has slid a lot.
