Fall in the Ozarks brings several great opportunities to serve the community and contribute to worthwhile organizations while having a great time with friends or coworkers. One of those events is the Annual Sporting Clays Shootout, benefiting Honor Flight of the Ozarks. Get your team together and head for Ozark Shooters Sports Complex at 759 U.S. Hwy. 65, Walnut Shade, on Saturday, September 26 for the 9th annual shootout, to help send our veterans on the trip of a lifetime to Washington, D.C.
Whether you’re a seasoned shooter or just want to spend a day with friends helping a great cause, this shootout has something for everyone. Cost for the 4-person team format is $500 per team, with 200 clays per team. Individual shooters are also welcome, for a $125 fee. There will be awards following the competition, and lunch is included.
Any qualifying veteran from the eras of World War II, Korea, Vietnam and Desert Shield/Desert Storm is eligible for an Honor Flight, referred to as “One More Mission with Honor,” to see the memorials that were built to honor their contributions. While viewing the memorials, they are able to enjoy fellowship and reminisce with others about their shared legacy. Mission priority is given to terminally ill veterans of any service area, with others prioritized by era starting with World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Every flight has a medical team on board, and a guardian/companion travels with each veteran.
A visit to the Springfield/Branson Regional Airport to welcome a returning Honor Flight will make every spectator a believer in this great cause as they see the joy on the veterans’ faces at being welcomed home, especially for those whose original return from serving was not as highly celebrated. Learn more, including how to nominate a veteran, via the website, https://www.honorflightoftheozarks.org, or the Facebook page.
Registration deadline for the sporting clays event is September 11; register at http://weblink.donorperfect.com/sportingclaysshootout. See you there, and thank you for helping honor those who served.
