Branson businessman and veteran’s life celebrated during Veterans Week

Friends gathered to remember a very special man during his Celebration of Life, held during Branson's Veterans Homecoming Week

Many community members, friends and former employees met at the Day Room of Veterans Village to share their memories of Steve Weyher, a veteran, Branson businessman and community leader who passed away in June.

Weyher was remembered for his caring, kindness, generosity and his hilarious antics. Often referred to as "Mr. Branson," Weyher, the long-time manager of Branson's Golden Corral, was a friend to all and a supporter of Branson's  entertainers, businesses, organizations and nonprofits.

A Vietnam veteran, Steve Weyher was best known for his love of—and support for—veterans.  He was involved in the earliest days of the Branson Veterans Homecoming celebrations and was instrumental in the creation of the Veterans Week Mess Hall, feeding veterans for free each day of the week-long celebration. It was a task he eagerly accepted for many years until his declining health made the endeavor impossible.

Weyher was one of the founders of the Branson Veterans Task Force. He was a driving force behind the Branson Remembers 9/11 ceremonies each year, and was the reason that American Flags line Gretna Road in the Avenue of Freedom, honoring first responders and veterans.

In a celebration organized by Weyher's dear friend Todd Aeschliman, Steve was fondly remembered by Branson entertainers Tom and Andrea Brett, Jim Barber, Terry Sanders and Allen Edwards, all of whom evoked a few tears and much laughter with their words.

In an honor fitting of the former restaurateur, the Mess Hall that serves the veterans and their spouses during each Veterans Homecoming Week was renamed the Steve Weyher Mess Hall.
