A Stone County Church honored veterans in a special way recently, in celebration of Veterans Week.
New Testament Church of Reeds Spring held a special program and dinner to celebrate those who sacrificed for our country. Veterans and their spouses or caregivers were invited, free of charge, to the evening event held in their honor.
Several state and local elected officials were in attendance, participating in the program to recognize these special men and women. The officials brought with them a variety of flags—United States flags, Missouri flags and county flags—which were presented to the veterans in attendance. These flags have flown over the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C., Missouri Capitol in Jefferson City, and the Stone County Courthouse in Galena. A variety of gifts were also given to recognize the veterans.
Public officials in attendance and presenting flags included Senator Brad Hudson, Jered Taylor of the 7th Congressional District, State Representative Brian Seitz (District 156), Representative Matthew Overcast (District 155) and Representative Jamie Gragg (District 140).
More than 100 veterans and nearly 300 area residents were in attendance.
This year marks the fifth year the New Testament Church has celebrated the veterans in this special way.
