The pros of pools

I remember as a youngster “wishing upon a star” for my folks to put in a pool. It was no fun to sunbathe with nothing to take a dip into as one needs to cool off. At long last, after I left home, married and had my babies, they put one in (after three kids’ colleges paid off) but we didn’t live that close to enjoy it, often. But when we did…it comprised the best of family times!

Water is simply soothing…no two ways about it. It is soothing, relaxing and a vitamin for our soul. A pool is the best alternative to not living close to a clean river, lake or ocean.

An in-ground pool can transform your backyard into a private oasis and a permanent “staycation!” This piece will list some non-disputable “pros” of having a pool available to you 24/7!

1) Water is a stress reliever even if you aren’t an avid swimmer. Get a buoyancy apparatus and you are set! The sounds of the water/waves hitting the side of the pool totally lull you to sleep or at least total relaxation (just keep the sunblock on!)

2) It is a vehicle for exercise and a great alternative to traveling to a gym, school pool or water park and dealing with noisy crowds. You having to travel to a gym, school or water park for building muscle and a cardiac/lung workout, taboot!

3) Having a pool can put a healthy “dent” in your screen time.

4) Provides an opportunity for family bonding that may not happen as frequently, otherwise. It also makes your home a “go to” hang out for positive socialization for neighbor kids.

5) Swimming or just being in the pool lowers cortisol levels and just 30 minutes of water activity per day is linked to lower tension and improved emotional well-being.

6) While in the pool, the combination of physical exertion, temperature changes and muscle relaxation promotes a deeper and more restorative (REM) rest at bedtime.

7) Water activities/exercise has the potential to burn an average of 400-950 calories per hour all without the wear and tear on your bones and joints, due to the buoyancy factor.

8) All ages can benefit from water exercises and play.

9) Builds home equity!

10) Makes for a perfect landscaping palette for planting enthusiasts with green thumbs…

Also, now we have our choices between conventional pools and hot tubs or the salt water version. Some of the benefits of the salt water choice would be…

·      Gentler on skin and hair as it maintains a healthy pH

·      No harsh odors because salt systems keep consistent sanitizer levels, eliminating residues and unpleasant odors

·      Lower maintenance - salt naturally purifies, needing no strong chemicals.

·      Longer lasting water as salt water pools normally only have to be drained yearly rather than quarterly

·      Saltwater has incredible buoyancy and is more relaxing.
