Thursday, October 30, was a special day at Options Pregnancy Clinic in Branson, as the Pooper Troopers trailer pulled up to deliver 4,000 diapers.
Pooper Troopers founders and directors Erwin and Janet Emger were accompanied by several students from the Skills USA Chapter at Table Rock Career Center, diaper drive coordinator and TRCC instructional specialist John Geibler, and Rachel Pryor, work experience coordinator at TRCC/Reeds Spring Schools, all of whom joined forces, fire-brigade style, to unload package after package of diapers and several heavy bags stuffed with a LOT of wipes. The donations were received from area residents through participating grocery stores, during the Pooper Troopers’ recent Southwest Missouri diaper drive.
After the supplies were unloaded, Options director Laura Fogle and development coordinator Lee Berhorst, showed the visitors to the special area where moms and dads can shop for needed supplies, clothing and baby gear, using points earned by attending parenting classes and getting their needed medical supervision at the clinic. “This is such a huge blessing for these moms and dads,” Fogle told the students.
The Emgers explained that the idea for the nonprofit came from their own family, as their adult children looked for creative ways to celebrate and give to each other when more toys and more stuff no longer seemed appropriate.
Pooper Troopers is now a registered nonprofit and diaper bank with the State of Missouri, for donor tax credit, and the Emgers look forward to meeting the various community coordinators during each diaper drive.
Geibler, in turn, thanked Options and the Emgers for the opportunity for the TRCC students to participate, stating that learning to get involved and give back to the community is one of the most important parts of students’ education.
