MoDOT issues safety reminders – SUBMITTED
Now, as the seasons are changing, is the time to be especially watchful for pedestrians, wildlife, and farm equipment on the roads. According to MoDOT, pedestrian fatalities are 76% more likely to occur after dark than during daylight hours. Our cooler, longer nights mean wild animals are on the move; most deer strikes with vehicles occur now through November, between 6 and 7 a.m. and 6 – 9 p.m. And, as it’s harvest season, watch for farm vehicles that often travel at less than 25 mph, and create large blind spots. Last year alone, Missouri had 163 traffic crashes involving farm equipment. At all times, wear your seat belt, control your speed, stay alert, and put your phone down.
