Get moving at ‘Dare to Be Square’

Did your New Year’s resolutions include learning a new skill or making some new friends? Do you feel like getting out for some fun to beat the winter blahs? Or maybe you’d like to learn more about Ozarks heritage and traditions?

Any—or all—of those would be a great reason to sign up for “Dare to be Square!” Ozark Mountain Music Association invites you to join them for a fun weekend of old-time community square dancing on Friday evening, February 6, and Saturday, February 7, at the Michel family’s Weddings at the Homestead venue, 262 Collins Rd. in Branson.

Workshops will be taught by experienced instructor Bob Zuellig from Colorado and are perfect for all levels of experience, including beginners and seasoned dancers alike. The first workshop is from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Friday evening, with a break for dinner. On Saturday, workshops begin at 9 a.m. and continue until 4:30 p.m. before reconvening for the closing dance at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Live music will be provided by seasoned dance musicians from around the area, and other musicians are invited to bring their instruments as well for open jam sessions after the dancing on both Friday and Saturday evenings.

Registration is required for this fun event, and the $65 per person cost includes Friday dinner and Saturday lunch. Attendees are encouraged to check out local dining options with new or old friends for Saturday breakfast and dinner.

Although childcare is not provided, families with younger children are welcome, as the Homestead venue is a lovely private property with plenty of space for kids to run and play. Some participants choose to dress up a little for the closing dance, but any attire that allows you to be comfortable and active is appropriate!

OMMA looks forward to sharing this special time of music, movement and community connection with you in the heart of the Ozarks! To register, visit https://www.ozarkmountainmusicassociation.com. Invoices will be sent out on February 1. Contact ozarkmountainmusic1@gmail.com or call 417-631-2442 with any questions.
