Branson's House of Hope, known as a Warming Center during the winter months, also serves as a Cooling Center when temperatures rise in the summer.
The Cooling Center opens on days when Branson's temperature hits 95 degrees or higher.
"Oddly enough, we have not had the Cooling Center open yet this year. Because the center’s opening is based on actual temperatures, we have not hit a day where the temperatures were 95 degrees or higher,” explained House of Hope's Alex Sprinkle. "Although the center has not been open, many guests have joined us consistently for breakfast and taken advantage of the shower and laundry facilities. These services are provided Monday through Friday, regardless of the temperature."
On the days that the Cooling Center is open, guests are offered breakfast, lunch and snacks throughout the day. Powerade and water are readily available to ensure they are hydrated. While at the center, guests are welcome to shower and wash their clothes.
"These services are offered year-round, but many can take advantage of them due to the increased amount of time at the facility. In addition to engaging in services, guests can watch TV, hang out and build community," Sprinkle noted.
As summer continues, it is anticipated that the House of Hope Cooling Center will be open, giving those who need it a cool place to spend the hottest of days. The House of Hope appreciates your help in the needs of their guests.
Said Sprinkle, "The greatest need in the center is drinks that are filled with electrolytes and high-protein snacks. We want to ensure our guests are safe during this warm summer season."
Donations can be dropped off at the House of Hope, 217 Veterans Boulevard in Downtown Branson.
