Many businesses give back to the community, especially during the holiday season. One local business, however, has found a creative way to give back all year long.

Teresa Bangma is the owner and operator of the Flea Hag Flea-&-Tiques. Her shop, located at the intersection on East Highway 76 and T Highway is packed with thousands of unique treasures—from dozens of vendors—including antiques and collectibles, a wide array of decor, tools, furniture and so much more. All items are neatly and cleverly displayed throughout the store, intriguing and enticing shoppers of all ages.
One of the most special displays in The Flea Hag is the one that features Flea Hag Adoptions—stuffed animals that when purchased—or adopted—benefit animals in the area. One hundred percent of the proceeds from these adoptions go to the Taney County Animal Control. Stuffed animals, fondly called Stuffies by The Flea Hag, have been adopted by children and adults far and wide, and many animals have benefitted from those adoptions.
Recently Bangma added another display to The Flea Hag. In what she calls a Flea Hag exclusive, Bangma has a selection of beautiful decorative items and seasonal decor. Proceeds from the sales of the items in this area also benefit the Taney County Animal Control. The local Animal Control provides quality animal care and control services and offers animals for adoption for a nominal fee.
"We rely on our monetary donations to sponsor adoptions, buy toys and treats, and if we have unexpected medical expenses beyond what our budget allows," explained Sherry Simpson, supervisor of the Taney County Animal Control. "Those monetary donations are used to offset the cost and provide those things. Thank you to The Flea Hag and to Teresa, personally. She has also adopted from the Taney County Animal Control."
The Flea Hag is located at 112 Highway T, and is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call them at 417-320-6163 or find The Flea Hag on Facebook. Taney County Animal Control is open 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Their location is 255 Critter Trail in Hollister, or call them at 417-332-0172.
