Are you ready for a fun learning experience for the whole family as part of your time in Branson? It’s not too late to see “A Time for Freedom,” an interactive family-oriented show premiering this summer at Freedom Encounter Theater.
This unique performance combines humor, audience participation and beloved historical characters, along with contemporary characters including a sincere but wacky scientist whose time travel experiments create the setting to bring the past to life. Kids of all ages won’t just sit and watch—they are invited to interact with the historical figures; test their knowledge of chemistry, history and mechanics; and be immersed in several key moments:
● George Washington’s leadership role during the early republic;
● The Articles of Confederation;
● The drama of the Constitutional Convention;
● The power of “We the People”;
● The concepts of checks and balances, separation of powers, and the Bill of Rights.
Audience members of various ages will experience their own “time travel” moments, as Sullivan the Scientist’s efforts to get George Washington back into the correct era result in encounters with a fairy tale princess, a famous couple from Shakespeare’s plays, and another time-traveler sure to be recognized by anyone who went to the movies in 1985!
Woven into the humor and history, there are also a few reminders of the importance of keeping our freedom, as the 1700s’ visitor pleads, “If we don’t get this fixed, we don’t have a Constitution!” Such reminders are a big part of the Freedom Encounter mission, and excellent resources for teaching foundational truths to the next generation can be found in the theater’s bookstore.
Show times are at 10 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays through August 15, so don’t miss this opportunity! Along with A Time for Freedom, check out the multi-media Freedom Journey Show, now in its ninth season in Branson! Also coming soon is the Freedom Journey Experience, including interactive visits to a colonial church and schoolhouse.
