In 1986, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed the very first National Garden Week. This year, National Garden week takes place June 7-13, and The Shepherd of the Hills Garden Club has a week of special events and activities planned for the 40th annual celebration.
Throughout National Garden Week, the public is invited to stop by the Library Center of the Ozarks during regular business hours Monday through Saturday to pick up a free pack of flowers seeds to add some color to their own garden. With easy to grow varieties that will grow in pots or in the ground, it’s the perfect opportunity to add some blooms this summer.
The Main Event of National Garden Week is the Shepherd of the Hills Garden Club Garden Tour on Thursday, June 11. For the first time ever, the public is invited to take part in the Club’s annual private tour of our members’ gardens. This year the tour will feature five private gardens at Pointe Royale belonging to both Shepherd of the Hills Club Members and Master Gardeners, plus some "behind the scenes" stops at the golf course greenhouses and monarch waystations. Tour guests will find inspiration for their personal gardens, as well as have the chance to ask questions and learn from experienced gardeners. Participants will meet at the Pointe Royale Clubhouse at 9 a.m. and then travel by golf cart to each stop on the tour. A fundraiser for the club, Garden Tour tickets are $5 per person and can be purchased online at ShepherdoftheHillsGardenClub.org. Space is limited; we do recommend purchasing tickets by June 9 to ensure availability.
Also during National Garden Week, the public is invited to a free guided tour of the Veterans Memorial Garden on June 10. The Veterans Memorial Garden is a peaceful space where those who visit can reflect, remember, celebrate and pay tribute to the men and women who have defended our freedoms. Located at 1107 West Main Street, the Veterans Memorial Garden is maintained by local volunteers, many of whom are Shepherd of the Hills Garden Club Members. While locals enjoy driving by and admiring the beautiful blooms, this is your chance to tour the garden and learn more about the flowers and memorials that make it so special. This free guided tour will begin at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, June 10.
The Shepherd of the Hills Garden Club has served the Branson area since 1954. The Shepherd of the Hills Garden Club strives to share our love of gardening through conservation, education and beautification projects.
