Crane Police arrested an Aurora woman in the early morning hours of August 9 following an incident that began near the intersection of Rose Avenue and Main Street. According to the Crane Police Department, officers were conducting patrols at approximately 2 a.m. when they observed an unidentified individual carrying a backpack running from an alley near the intersection.

When an officer attempted to investigate, the individual reportedly stopped and looked at the officer before running down another alley behind businesses along Main Street. The officer pursued the individual and was able to catch up with the suspect.
Police reported that the individual again attempted to break away and flee before the officer was able to detain her.
The suspect was identified as Peggy Cassandra Schofield of Aurora, Missouri. According to police, Schofield gave the officer consent to search the backpack she was carrying. During the search, officers reportedly discovered methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia.
Schofield was subsequently booked into the Stone County Jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine precursors, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to obey orders from a law enforcement officer, and resisting or fleeing arrest. The charges are allegations, and Schofield is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
The incident remains part of the public record through the Crane Police Department and Stone County Jail.
