Lake gathering honors Crisco’s legacy

On Saturday morning, September 5, boaters made their way to “Crisco’s bluff” between Long Creek and Cricket Creek marinas on Table Rock Lake, in honor of the special white goat who passed away on July 25.

In a video posted on the “In Memory: Crisco the Table Rock Lake Goat” Facebook page, page administrator and Crisco fan Krystal Tippey shared special memories and referred to Crisco as “more than just a goat,” saying he represented wonder and family fun. Finding his bluff and getting a glimpse or a photo became a family tradition for so many locals and visitors alike. Tippey also thanked those who volunteered their time to search and recover Crisco’s body and care for his remains.

In addition to boating by his bluff, some visitors stopped by Cricket Creek Marina for Crisco-themed merchandise to add to their memories. Other merchandise offerings have been shared on the memorial Facebook page; and check out the September 11 Reader’s Corner feature about Matt Starr’s wonderful children’s book!

The Facebook page has a variety of photos shared by people who visited on Saturday, as well as memories by people who couldn’t make it Saturday but also had great photos to share from past visits. Tippey said she intends to keep the page open for content submissions a while longer, as people process their memories and the loss of the iconic furry friend, and then the page will eventually be transferred to “read only” for future reference and passing the story on to younger family members.
