Humane Society celebrates 20 years with changes to organization

The Branson Humane Society is celebrating 20 years of helping find forever homes for animals in the Branson Lakes Area. With the anniversary comes some significant changes to the nonprofit organization.

"We are so proud of the thousands and thousands of adoptions we have facilitated and connections made," explained a Humane Society representative. "Moving forward, BHS will look a little bit different."

Effective immediately the adoptions at the Humane Society will be limited to cats— and a few small dogs from time to time.  

"We feel that there are amazing rescues in our area that can supply as many adoptable animals as needed," said the Humane Society Representative.

By limiting the adoptions, the Humane Society will have more time to focus on Snip City, the Humane Society's low-cost spay and neuter center, which has been restructured. Originally part of the Bissell Fix the Future Program, the spay and neuter clinic has stepped away from the Bissell program, due to increased cost of supplies and other expenses. The clinic will continue to provide low-cost services— the lowest in the region—$65 for cats (including surgery, FVRCP vaccine and rabies vaccine) and $75 for dogs (surgery, DAPP vaccine and rabies vaccine).

The clinic will be renamed Snip City 2.0.

Another change at the Humane Society will be in adoption center hours. The adoption center will now be open to the public on Saturdays only, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"We will continue to have adoptable felines in house, as well as continue to supply fully vetted cats to our partner, Mochas and Meows Cat Cafe and Adoption Center, and to Petco," explained the representative. "We are so excited to get Snip City running to its fullest potential and make affordable spay and neuter services more accessible to our community. Thank you for supporting BHS for the past 20 years and we look forward to at least another 20!"

Both of the Humane Society Thrift Stores will remain open with proceeds from thrift shop sales helping to fund Humane Society operations and offset the cost of operating Snip City 2.0.  One of the Humane Society Thrift Stores is located next to the Branson Humane Society on Shepherd of the Hills Expressway, while the downtown thrift store can be found at 306 Veterans Boulevard in Branson.
