Entertainer hosts event to discuss trafficking and more

A Branson entertainer organized an event to discuss a topic that has caused concern with many Branson area residents, entitled "Uncovered," the purpose of the meeting was to address, bring about awareness and help prevent sexual abuse, trafficking and grooming of children.

Dustin Tavella, who hosted the event, is a Branson resident and a former headliner in one of Branson's theaters. Tavella introduced the audience to local organizations such as Pathway Projects Coalition of the Ozarks, as well as Red Light Rebellion of Phoenix, Arizona, to share insight into this serious and growing issue.

Tavella noted during the faith-based event that recent incidents that have happened in the Branson area make this a timely matter for discussion, and it is important to recognize the signs of sexual assault, grooming and trafficking in children.

Throughout the presentation, speakers suggested looking for such signs as adults contacting the child via private messaging or arranging one-on-one time, showering the child with gifts and attention, inappropriate conversation or touching.

Tavella pointed out that many people are hesitant to speak out about such topics, in fear of hurting tourism in our area, but stated that he feels the community can no longer keep silent. Tavella added that it is his desire to help bring about change in our community.

The Branson Police Department and area law enforcement remain committed to fighting human trafficking and other sexual crimes in our area. If you suspect sexual abuse, sex or human trafficking, or similar crimes, you are encouraged to contact your local law enforcement agency or call the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 888-373-7888.
