Organizers and volunteers of the Convoy of Honor are excited to invite the community to be a part of “history in the making” during Branson’s Veterans Homecoming Week this year. From November 8 through 10, special activities are planned in connection with the Branson Patriot Wall Project, a series of murals planned around Branson to celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States of America.
Hosted by Lake Vibez, 5439 Historic Hwy. 165, Branson, families can participate in fun activities in connection with the first mural. Five well-known artists, including J.DubsArt and Son of Fink, are collaborating for the main picture of a special I-Spy wall, titled “Bringing Them Home—In Our Own Special Way.” From 8 a.m. until dark on Saturday and Sunday, November 8 and 9, families can participate in painting additional sections of the mural for a $5 donation, with supplies provided. (Children under age 10 must have supervision to paint.)
Also, during that time, plan to enjoy browsing vendor booths and listening to—or participating in—live music at a front-porch picking party, along with some great food and drink specials for purchase. There will also be karaoke, on November 9 at 7 p.m.
The big Mural Reveal is planned for 12 noon on Sunday, November 10, with local officials and area legislative representatives present. An AI animator will also make the mural come alive, viewable via a QR code. Also on the 10th, plan to enjoy special music by local entertainer Dan Keeton along with singer/musician Steve Spurgeon of USA Superheroes.
Admission for this 7 p.m. music event will be a minimum two-drink purchase or equivalent donation; additional donations will also be accepted to help with Spurgeon’s creation of Captain Dreamer, a DC Comics character representing the foundational values of military personnel and first responders: Courage, kindness, service and sacrifice. Captain Dreamer will join previous characters Sparky and McGruff in curriculum for teaching these values to schoolchildren.
Learn more about the project, which grew from Spurgeon’s concern for our nation following the events of Sept. 11, 2001, at https://usasuperheroes.org/index.html. You’ll also find a link to his inspirational song, “Wake Up in the USA.”
Following the performances by Keeton and Spurgeon will be “open mic” at 9 p.m. Organizer Mona Miller shared that she would love to hear some veteran stories during this special time.
Again this year, Convoy of Honor will make their home base at Table Rock State Park, and will hold their Convoy Through Branson, a 16-mile lap on Hwys. 165, 265, 376 and 248/Gretna Rd. to the Veterans Village. Main events of the Convoy of Honor and Patriot Mural Project will be livestreamed by Mona’s Moments and area media. Camping is available at the State Park, and other nearby lodging facilities are offering special pricing during the events; visit the Convoy of Honor website and Facebook page for updates.
Miller also invites local business, churches, etc., to get involved in the Patriotic Mural Project by adding a mural at their location or sponsoring one. Murals must be patriotic-themed and predominantly red, white and blue.
