City of Branson awarded grant to assist communities with forest improvements

The City of Branson Parks and Recreation Department has successfully completed advanced training in urban forestry and tree safety, made possible through recently awarded grant funding.

Laura Perry, Landscape & Trails Supervisor, has completed the International Society of Arboriculture Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) program, a nationally recognized certification that provides standardized, science-based methods for evaluating tree health and identifying potential risks in public spaces.

With this qualification, the department is now better equipped to conduct consistent and defensible tree risk assessments across parks, trails and other public areas. The training enhances the City’s ability to proactively address potential hazards while preserving healthy trees and maintaining Branson’s urban forest.

“Completing TRAQ training strengthens our ability to make informed, consistent decisions regarding tree risk and long-term management,” said Perry. “This allows us to better balance public safety with the preservation of our tree canopy.”

The Parks and Recreation Department will incorporate TRAQ principles into routine inspections, staff training and long-term planning efforts, further supporting safe, resilient and well-maintained public spaces throughout the community.
