Last weekend, several members of the department participated in a 12-hour Heavy Rescue Extrication Training class in Republic, Missouri. The training was hosted by Rescue Redefined and focused on techniques for safely extricating people trapped in large and heavy vehicles following accidents.

Throughout the course, firefighters worked through complex rescue scenarios involving buses, dump trucks, semi-trucks and other heavy vehicles. These situations can present unique challenges for emergency responders, requiring specialized equipment, careful planning and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.

The training also provided an opportunity for Hurley firefighters to learn from instructors representing different parts of the country. By exploring new techniques and approaches, participants gained fresh perspectives on how to handle difficult rescue situations.

According to the Hurley Fire Protection District, one of the most valuable aspects of the experience was the opportunity to challenge familiar methods and consider new ways of approaching emergency responses.

Training is an essential part of ensuring firefighters are prepared to respond when community members need them most. By continuing to develop their knowledge and abilities, department members can improve their readiness for a wide range of emergencies.

The department emphasized its commitment to bringing the knowledge gained through the training back to the community, helping ensure firefighters are equipped to face the unexpected.

The Hurley Fire Protection District summed up its approach with a simple message: “Train hard. Think outside the box. Never stop learning.” Through continued education and hands-on experience, Hurley firefighters are working to strengthen their skills and remain prepared to serve and protect their community.
