Branson mourns the loss of two top entertainers
The Branson community was saddened by the loss of two talented entertainers recently – Dustin Gross and James Tarver.
Dustin "Dusty" Gross passed away on October 22, at the age of 41, due to injuries from a motor vehicle accident.
Gross, who grew up in the Taney County area developed a love for music at an early age. The gifted guitar player and vocalist traveled throughout the country, performing with such nationally known acts as Johnny Lee, Mickey Gilley, Roy Clark, Billy Dean and Lee Brice, among others. The self-taught musician performed as part of Branson's Famous Baldknobbers, where he was loved by both the cast and the audiences,
Chasing his childhood dream took Dusty many miles, even to the stage of the Grand Ole Opry.
As much as he loved music, Gross loved his family even more and will be greatly missed by his children, fiancé, parents, grandparents, extended family, friends and fans.
James Tarver had an amazing musical history and a career that spanned six decades. Tarver, a legendary performer, shared the stage with many music greats, such as ZZ Hill, Big Mama Thornton, Bobby Bland and Chubby Checker. A powerful force in the blues circuit, Tarver also entertained at military bases as part of the USO Tour, to boost the morale of the troops.
Tarver relocated to the Branson area in 2004, and began sharing his music with the many visitors who travel to the area. Tarver accepted the role of Sammy Davis Jr., as part of the Rat Pack at the Branson Variety Theatre, and later performed alongside Chico Vega's Drifters at Branson's Hot Hits Theater.
In more recent years, Tarver entertained at Veterans events, VFW Halls and American Legions, to encourage and support our nation's veterans.
James Tarver passed away on October 30, at the age of 82. He will be forever missed by his grieving family, friends and fans, especially his wife, Lisa, who was his constant companion, best friend and caretaker throughout his battle with lung cancer.
