Wolf to be remembered in celebration of life at Forsyth Library

A Forsyth resident with a rich history—both locally and abroad—has passed away.

 Mary Rose (Vorstius) Wolf was born in Weymouth, Dorset County, England in August of 1934. Mary and her parents resided in London until the German Blitz. Mary and her mother headed north to the town of Bowness-on-Windermere to escape the bombing while her father, a member of the Royal Navy, was on a ship.

As a child, Mary developed a love for dance, and after graduation she moved to London to work at the Palladium Theatre, where she met many of the biggest names in entertainment at the time, such as Danny Kaye, the Rat Pack and Bob Hope. A competitive ballroom dancer and classically trained ballerina, Mary met and married American Navy Lieutenant James Denney. The couple would move to New York before relocating to Forsyth to be near his parents. After James and Mary divorced, she met and married Garland Wolf in 1969. He preceded her in death in 2018.

Mary had many projects that she was passionate about, but one of her favorites was her work at the Forsyth Library, which she helped found, and the Library Thrift Store. Mary was the last surviving member of the founders of the Forsyth Library and remained an active part of the Library and its Thrift Store, in some capacity, throughout the years, until her recent passing at the age of 91.  

A Celebration of Life for Mary Wolf will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 12 noon until 3 p.m. at the Forsyth Library, located at 162 Main Street in Forsyth.

Area residents, friends, family, library volunteers and patrons are encouraged to come and share their memories and stories of Mary Wolf. Light refreshments will be served.
