Treasure Lake hosts Veterans quilt presentation

On Friday, September 18, two area veterans were honored for their service with a Quilt of Valor presented by members of Discovery Quilters of Shell Knob, Missouri. 

Steven Mills served in the U.S. Army from 2006-2012, including deployment to Afghanistan. Matthew Sweazey also served in the Army, spending time in 17 countries over the course of his 23-year career.

The presentation ceremony was hosted by Treasure Lake RV Resort in Branson, where both men are currently employed, with some fellow staff members in attendance along with family members and friends. 

The Discovery Quilters of Shell Knob recently celebrated 34 years of quilting, friendship, and service to the community. The group meets on the fourth Monday of each month at Central Community United Methodist Church in Shell Knob. The group has grown through the years, now comprising several smaller groups, each focused on using their skills to serve others: 

●      The baby quilt group provides quilts to local agencies and families, with the main focus being those in Stone and Barry County. 

●      Comfort Quilts are made for members of the community who are experiencing illness, loss or other difficult circumstances. 

●      The Quilts of Valor group honors local veterans in recognition of their service, regardless of whether they served during wartime, overseas, or in the U.S. Each quilt is individually handmade and accompanied with a certificate of appreciation and gratitude. 

Discovery Quilters is also preparing for a quilt show to be held September 25 and 26, 2027, a wonderful opportunity for the community to see the creativity and craftsmanship of local quilters. The goal of Discovery Quilters is to further interest in quilts and the art of quilting through fellowship, education and service.
