Tax Free Weekend means more back to school savings

Missouri's annual back to school Tax Free Weekend is set for this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The Tax Free Weekend gives shoppers an extra savings on back to school essentials such as school supplies, shoes and clothing and computers.

Items that are exempt from state sales tax include clothing and footwear (cost of $100 or less per item—does not include watches, purses, jewelry or cleated shoes), school supplies (notebooks, pens, pencils, calculators $50 or less per purchase), graphing calculators ($150 or less), computers (cost of $1,500 or less) and educational computer software ($350 or less).

The Missouri Tax Free Weekend exempts only the state sales tax of 4.225%.  Local taxes, such as city, county and special district taxes still apply.  Likewise, municipalities and counties are not required to participate in the tax free weekend.

Branson remains a willing participant in the tax free holiday, with many venues offering extra discounts to entice back-to-school shoppers to visit.

The tax free pricing also applies to online shopping of included items that meet the set criteria.

The 2026 Missouri Tax Free Weekend is this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 7, 8 and 9.
