Stone County Health Department brings recovery resources together

Recovery can begin with one connection, one resource and one person willing to help.

In recognition of National Recovery Month, the Stone County Health Department will host a Recovery Month Community Outreach Event from 1 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, in the Community Room at 701 Old Wilderness Road in Reeds Spring. The event is free and open to the public.

Observed each September, National Recovery Month celebrates individuals in recovery, recognizes those who support them and raises awareness of treatment and recovery resources.

Carrie Padilla, community liaison for the Stone County Health Department, said the event will bring local recovery organizations, treatment providers, peer support programs, prevention organizations and other community partners together, making it easier for individuals and families to learn about available services and connect with help.

“Recovery does not happen alone. It happens when communities choose to show up for one another,” Padilla said.

Attendees can learn about prevention, treatment and recovery resources as well as overdose prevention, including how to recognize an overdose, respond in an emergency and use naloxone, commonly known as Narcan.

A brief community survey will also help identify needs, barriers to services and awareness of local resources. Wellness kits, event T-shirts and other giveaways will be available while supplies last. Those completing the survey will have an opportunity to receive a gas card while supplies last.

“You can carry hope. You can save a life. You can end the stigma,” Padilla said. “And together, we can remind our neighbors that recovery is possible.”
