Square Dance Workshop celebrates tradition and fun

Music, traditional fun and the blessing of good weather filled the Michel family’s Homestead venue on Friday evening, February 6, and Saturday, February 7, as Ozark Mountain Music Association hosted “Dare to Be Square.”

More than 50 dancers of all age groups and experience levels from across southwest Missouri and the Mountain View, Arkansas, area, spent time improving their skills while having fun. Expert calling and instruction were provided by Bob Zuellig, who regularly visits from Colorado to support and participate in OMMA events. Traditional dance musicians from around the Ozarks provided live dance music for square dance and waltz numbers.

The 2026 season of fun, competition and traditional musical learning is just beginning for Ozark Mountain Music Association and their area supporters. Mark your calendar for the Youth in Bluegrass Contest, May 23 in Branson; Bluegrass Camps in Branson June 9-13 and 16-20; and Old-time Music and Dance Camp in Mountain View, Arkansas, July 14-17. Visit www.ozarkmountainmusicassociation.com for details and registration information, and follow the Facebook page for updates.

Thanks to OMMA for doing their part to create fun, family-friendly venues for keeping traditional music alive and well for the next generation to enjoy!
