Lonnie Brown and the Shirley’s Kitchen team want to thank the Forsyth area businesses and individuals, including many of the restaurant’s loyal customers, who stepped up to help provide food for families during the recent government shutdown which delayed SNAP benefits.
Brown said nearly $7,000 was raised, which helped provide a grocery store gift card to each family with children participating in the weekend backpack program through the Forsyth schools. In addition, donations helped provide 684 pounds of pork, 1,440 sandwich buns and over 300 pounds of oats to families with children.
“I’m glad to see things finally getting worked out and starting to pick back up for these families,” said Brown. “We are so grateful to everyone who helped.”
Shirley’s Kitchen is a favorite place for friends in the community to gather, as well as a great stop for some good food on the way to take care of county business in Forsyth or enroute to the Bull Shoals Lake area. Hours are 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, plus BBQ dinner from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
