It’s hot outside and seems like summer might last forever, but back-to-school time is just around the corner! That means it’s time for the Stone County School Readiness Fair.
Hosted by Unite Table Rock Lake along with numerous area churches, businesses and individuals who pitch in to make a difference for Stone County families, the annual fair will be held August 14, 2026, at New Testament Church in Reeds Spring.
The fair provides children with school supplies, free haircuts, shoes, socks and underwear, and more, along with information about other available community resources. To be eligible, children must reside in Stone County and qualify for free or reduced-price school lunch.
“This is so much more than school supplies,” shared Maureen Darby of Unite Table Rock Lake. “It’s truly providing them with so much to be ready for a good school experience.” Volunteers have shared that the excitement is contagious as children choose a backpack and go from booth to booth to experience the “feel” of shopping for back-to-school. Another favorite moment is when a child gets their first-ever school swag shirt and can’t wait to wear it for the first day of school!
Registration closes on August 1, so if your child or one you know is eligible and not yet signed up, visit the Unite Table Rock Lake Facebook page right away for the link.
Also, on the Facebook page is the sign-up link for volunteers, which many say is one of the most rewarding experiences they’ve ever had as they watch the children’s excitement and their families’ appreciation. Some families who benefited during a hard time financially are now serving proudly as volunteers; but more volunteers are needed for the fair and also for Stuff the Bus at the Branson West Walmart on August 7 and 8, handing out flyers and shopping lists and helping collect the donations. Don’t miss this opportunity to serve our area kids and families!
