Reeds Spring Hillbilly Days return for second annual celebration

Dust off the overalls, brush up on your best talent and dig out Grandma’s favorite pie recipe because Hillbilly Days is headed back to Reeds Spring.

The Reeds Spring Events Committee will host the second annual Hillbilly Days on Saturday, Sept. 12, bringing an afternoon and evening of live music, food trucks, local vendors, a beer garden, the Little Miss Tomato Pageant, a pie-baking and canned pickle contest and a talent show to the Reeds Spring Events Field.

The festivities will kick off with a parade at 3 p.m., beginning at Fuel R Up. Parade participants are asked to bring a $10 donation or pet food to support the humane society. Following the parade, the gates will open at the Reeds Spring Events Field with free admission.

Wendy Youngblood with the Reeds Spring Events Committee said organizers are looking forward to bringing the community together again and hope residents will get involved in the activities throughout the day.

“We’re excited to bring Hillbilly Days back and hope everyone will come out, have some fun and get involved, especially with the pie and pickle contests,” Youngblood said.

Those who think they make the best pie, or canned pickles around will have a chance to prove it during the Best Pie and Best Canned Pickle Contest. Entries must be delivered to the Reeds Spring Events Field by 5 p.m. on the day of the event, Saturday, Sept. 12.

A talent show will begin at 7 p.m., giving participants another opportunity to take the spotlight. Anyone may enter for $20, and a cash prize will be awarded to the winner. Nicole Turner is coordinating the talent show.

This year’s Hillbilly Days T-shirts are available for $20 each, with proceeds supporting the Reeds Spring Events Committee. Shirts may be preordered by calling or texting Youngblood at 417-239-5793 and picked up at the welcome tent on the day of the event.

The Reeds Spring Events Committee will hold its next meeting at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, at Reeds Spring Pizza Co. The meeting is open to the public, and community members interested in learning more or getting involved are invited to attend.
