Reader’s Corner: Visit America’s first suburbs, via Learning on Wednesday

Many of us have grown up in suburbs, but have we ever thought much about the fact that at some point, pioneer suburbanites began bridging the gap between America’s cities and rural communities, developing neighborhoods, schools and faith communities, with some residents opening service businesses or professional offices while others continued to commute to jobs in the city? 

For a look at this piece of American history, join speaker Karole Friemann at Kimberling Area Library for a Learning on Wednesday program, “1951: Baby Boomers Move to America’s First Suburbs.” Karole will share her experiences as a pioneer Baby Boomer growing up in America’s first suburbs of Long Island, New York. 

Join friends, or make new ones, on September 9 starting at 10:15 a.m. in the Kimberling Area Library Community Room, 45 Kimberling Blvd. Not a boomer? Not a problem! This presentation will appeal to history buffs or might even shed light on stories shared by parents or grandparents.
