Reader’s Corner: Learn skills and resources for aging at home

Most older adults want to remain in their home as they age. For many, the idea of leaving a cherished family homestead or the house where children were raised and grandchildren have visited is emotionally difficult or even frightening, but as the seasons of life move forward, staying at home can become more challenging, especially for senior adults living alone.

However, there are steps that can be taken to make staying at home during one’s senior years safer. Familiar surroundings, being acquainted with neighbors, taking advantage of community resources, and having daily routines can all support independence, while in-home care services and recent technologies can help make aging at home safer.

Learn more about how to facilitate aging at home by attending Kimberling Area Library’s Learning on Wednesday program on August 12, 2026. Kelly Love, Business Development Advisor of Home Instead, will present “Maintaining Independence in Your Home: An Aging Option,” an informative discussion about practical options that may help you or a loved one remain safely at home.

Mark your calendar and plan to join friends, or make new ones, at this helpful session starting at 10:15 a.m. in the KAL Community Room, 45 Kimberling Blvd. in Kimberling City. Coffee and light snacks will be provided; attendance is free, and pre-registration is not required.
