The saying, “It takes a village,” describes many scenarios where community members work together for the good of all. Here in southwest Missouri, one great illustration of that concept is in the areas of health and wellness for residents and families of Stone and Taney counties.

Learn more about the community commitment to wellness in Stone County by joining Kimberling Area Library on Wednesday, November 11, for “Stone County Community Health Coalition: Empowering Our Community Health.”

This Learning on Wednesday session will feature Carrie Padilla of the Stone County Health Coalition, sharing about the broad-based organizational work of local agencies to improve access to health care for families, youth and older adults. The Coalition meets monthly to plan collaborative efforts to meet its mission and create lasting change to support a healthier, safer and stronger Stone County.

The Coalition’s recent activities and events have included—

  • DEA drug takeback days;

  • Participation in the Governor’s Challenge for suicide prevention;

  • Participation in area recovery celebrations and resource fairs.

Coming up will be a fun run to raise funds for the fight against Parkinson’s disease. Follow the Stone County Health Coalition on Facebook to stay up to date on special events.

This informative session will begin at 10:15 on November 11 in the Library Community Room. Coffee and light snacks are provided; attendance is free; and no pre-registration is required. KAL staff and volunteers hope to see you for this informative Veterans’ Day program.
