Plunge to end hunger with Christian Action Ministries

As prices remain high for food, utilities and transportation, many Stone County and Taney County residents are regularly faced with difficult choices in order to make ends meet. For some, the situation becomes dire during the off-season for Branson area tourism, with work hours being reduced for many service jobs.

Christian Action Ministries invites the community to help fellow citizens in need by supporting the Plunge for Hunger. Your donation will help support several community leaders in raising funds for CAM by plunging into the frigid waters of Lake Taneycomo:

  • Kirk Elmquist/Branson Chamber team

  • Bank of Missouri leadership team

  • Silver Dollar City PR team

  • BNI Branson leadership

  • Matthew Ramsey

  • Dr. Alex Williams

  • Dr. Brad Johnson (C of O)

  • Chick-fil-A leadership team

  • Grant Sloan

  • Laney Tatro (CAM)

  • Pastor Dave Wiant

  • Hollister Mayor Jeff Long

  • Hollister Area Chamber Director John Hagey

  • Dr. Matt Dean/Branson Schools team

On Tuesday, February 10, Hollister and Silver Dollar City teams will kick things off, hitting the water at 11 a.m., with the remaining participants having their turn on Wednesday, February 25. All of these community leaders have agreed to participate, not because they particularly enjoy an icy swim, but wanting their daring adventure to help a cause they believe in. You choose the leader you want to encourage with your donation, with several donation amount options starting with a $25 “I want to help” gift.

A recent study showed that 46% of CAM pantry visitors had to choose between food and utilities; 38% had to decide between buying food or paying for medicine or medical care; and 35% had to choose either paying for housing or buying food. Such decisions are the reality for many of the area’s working poor.

Your support of the Plunge for Hunger helps keep CAM ready to serve these neighbors; but not only does it help with food insecurities, it also allows Christian Action Ministries to use food distribution as a tool to minister the love of Christ to those who are struggling and connect them with other community partners to help with other social, emotional, and spiritual needs.
