My last goodbye

BY GARY J. GROMAN, a.k.a., The Ole Seagull, Columnist Emeritus and

SARAH HESSION, Galaway Vocalist/Song Writer

Having lost his wife of 62 years earlier this year, the Ole Seagull offers the lyrics to this song as a message of comfort for all those who have experienced the painful loss of a loved one, with the hope that it brings you the same comfort that it brings to him. Sarah Hession’s “My Last Goodbye” touched his heart and speaks gently from the heart of a departing soul, turning grief into gratitude and offering solace to those left behind as she sings these words:

By the time you read these words

I’ll have already gone

And I know there’ll be some days ahead

You’ll wish I were still home

But my days are done, my part is played

And if I leave one thing, it’s gratitude for all the years

And everything they’ve been.

I’ve lived, I’ve loved, I’ve laughed enough

To fill a thousand years

I’ve held the hands that mattered most

Through all the passing tears

There’s nothing more I’d ask of life

No more I’d need to know

My heart is full, my story told

So smile and let me go.

Remember me in little things, in moments that appear

A song we love to photograph

A voice you’ll almost hear

And if my name should bring a tear

Don’t feel you have to hide

For grief is only love that’s left

Still standing by your side.

I’ve lived, I’ve loved, I’ve laughed enough

To fill a thousand years

I’ve held the hands that mattered most

Through all the passing tears

There’s nothing more I’d ask of life

No more I’d need to know

My heart is full, my story told

So smile and let me go.

May these words softly linger

When all your tears run dry

My smile you will remember

Love past, my last goodbye

I’ve lived, I’ve loved, I’ve laughed enough

To fill a thousand years

I’ve held the hands that mattered most

Through all the passing tears

There’s nothing more I’d ask of life

No more I’d need to know

My heart is full, my story told

So smile and let me go.
