Mike Nichols Auction House Jamboree performs at Grand Country

For one night only, an August 26 performance starring Mike Nichols took place at the Grand Country Music Hall.

Mike's 40-year music career has been a part of the Branson area scene for many years. "When I came to Branson the first time in the mid-1970s, there were only four theaters in town," Mike recalled. Many folks remember him from his years at the Ozark Mountain Hoedown in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. His run there began in 1991 and lasted until 2001, but then he returned there in 2016 remaining until November 2023. "I worked twelve years in Branson total," Mike said.

Mike was with Moe Bandy from 2003 to 2007. He also performed in Tom Brumley's morning show and was later with Pierce Arrow, too, doing comedy. Mike also owned and operated the Rowdy Beaver Restuarant for four years. Mike's children and grandchildren still live in the Branson area.

Mike's performance at Grand Country last week was an evening filled with classic country, comedy and gospel. I especially enjoyed Mallory Gullet's performance of “Coat of Many Colors," saluting the great Dolly Parton as this performance took place the day after Dolly had passed away.

Bob Franklin, Mallory's father, was also well featured and his take on Willie Nelson, was a crowd favorite. Bob and Mallory also have an excellent duet sound together.

'The Nichols Brothers Trio' with Mike, his brother Ronnie, along with Steve Stewart also had a great sound. Their Glen Campbell segment was wonderful, and they honored a number of other country stars during the evening. The comedy antics were the perfect addition to the evening, as many fans remember Mike's comic character as Tator "Chip" Patches.

Near the end of the performance, Mike sang his composition "Please Pray for Me." This is a fabulous number. Look for it on YouTube, as it has received some recent chart success.

Mike and his band, featuring Matthew Miller (piano), Shannon Holman (drums), Kevin Hampton (lead guitar), Steve Stewart (guitar) and Paul Miller (bass) can be seen at their theater in Clarksville, Arkansas, the first Saturday of every month.
