Magicians accused of exploitation

Two local magicians with ties to Branson have been accused of the sexual exploitation of children.

According to recent court documents, Garry and Janine Carson, prominent magicians in the Branson area, coerced an unnamed minor to engage in sexually explicit acts for the purpose of creating videos and still images. The alleged activity took place between January 1, 2023 and June 13, 2025.

Garry and Janine Carson are well-known in the magic community, having performed thousands of shows worldwide. They enjoyed a long-term residency at The MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and have been featured on the television series "Masters of Illusion."

Locally, the couple produced and starred in two Branson shows—Escape Reality and The Cabaret Magic Dinner Show.

The Hughes Brothers Theatre, a popular and well-respected venue on Branson's 76 Country Boulevard, where the couple previously performed, released a statement regarding the accusations.

In a social media post, a representative of the Hughes Brothers Theatre stated, "We are aware of recent legal matters involving independent performers who have previously appeared at our venue. These individuals are not employees of the theatre, and we are not involved in the legal proceedings. They do not currently have any scheduled shows at the theatre."

The post continued, "The Hughes Theatre remains committed to providing a safe, family-friendly environment for our guests, performers and staff.  We will continue cooperating fully with authorities if any information is requested. As this is an ongoing legal matter, we cannot provide any more information."
