‘Largest Oktoberfest in Southwest Mo’ returns to Branson

Fall is here, and that means it is time for Oktoberfest in Branson—set for October 4. 

What began more than 40 years ago as a small German sausage dinner has grown into Branson’s largest Oktoberfest, attracting hundreds of visitors each year for great food, lively entertainment and games.

Oktoberfest is a celebration of German heritage. “Oktoberfest celebrates culture, preserves customs and promotes a whole lot of family fun,” said Gina Brandt, festival organizer. “With so much German heritage represented

in our congregation, we take great pride in keeping the experience authentic—from the décor to the food. Last year, more than 75 volunteers from our church family helped make this event possible.”

Voted Best of Branson Special Events three years in a row, this family friendly festival brings the sights, sounds, flavors and traditions of Germany to the heart of the Ozarks. With authentic German food, music, dancing, games, contests, children’s activities, prizes and plenty of fellowship, Faith Lutheran’s Oktoberfest offers something for everyone. “Oktoberfest is a great place for families to connect and have fun,” said Pastor Joel Krueger of Faith Lutheran Church. “From live polka music to the children’s donut-eating contest, it’s a lively way for our community to come together.”

Doors open for the special event at 11 a.m. for food service, and a special welcome will be held at noon. Festival goers can enjoy live music and dancing featuring the Five Stein Brass polka band and a variety of games and contests beginning at noon, that include yodeling, the ever popular Stein-holding competition, costume contests, cake walks and lots of fun for families and children taking place all afternoon. The Kinderpark/outdoor play area includes pumpkin painting, games and train rides for the kids, while all ages will enjoy the tractor-drawn wagon rides.

A German Marketplace features homemade bakery items, giant pretzels and Lebkuchenherzen (decorated 2026 gingerbread hearts perfect for collecting) and an assortment of homemade baked goods prepared by the Lutheran ladies and men. A German meal of bratwurst, sauerkraut (using a 500-year-old Brandt family recipe from northern Germany), homemade potato salad (featuring a third-generation Schaefer family recipe), apple strudel and a drink is available for only $15 per person, and can be enjoyed to dine in or carry out. Also available are a la carte items and desserts.

A children’s meal featuring a hot dog, chips and cookie will be available for $5.

The popular gift basket raffle and silent auction will once again feature dozens of generously donated items. This year’s special prizes include two exciting one-hour scenic flights for three people over the Branson area. One flight will be available through the silent auction, with bidding taking place at Oktoberfest. An additional chance to win a flight is also available by purchasing a raffle ticket by calling 417-334-2469.

Festival goers are also invited to tour Faith Lutheran’s remodeled sanctuary and new school classrooms while attending Oktoberfest. “We’re proud to share our growing school with the community,” said Joey Bluege, Associate Pastor and School Administrator.
