An evening of music, family activities and opportunities to meet local first responders brought residents together for Kimberling City's fifth annual National Night Out.

Hosted by the Kimberling City Police Department in partnership with local first responders and community organizations, the event was held Oct. 6 at Our Lady of the Cove Catholic Church, bringing together residents, law enforcement, firefighters, emergency personnel and nonprofit organizations.

National Night Out is a nationwide community-building initiative established in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch. The annual program promotes crime prevention awareness, strengthens relationships between law enforcement and residents and encourages community involvement.

Stone County Sheriff Doug Rader said deputies enjoyed the opportunity to display department equipment and visit with residents during the event.

"It was a great evening at National Night Out in Kimberling City. We brought out some of our equipment and had the opportunity to visit with many of our residents. Approximately 250 people attended, and everyone enjoyed the music and fellowship," Rader said.

Kimberling City Police Chief Todd Lemoine said the annual gathering brought families, first responders, nonprofit organizations and community partners together while reinforcing the importance of trust and communication.

"National Night Out is more than an evening of food and fun, it is about building relationships, strengthening trust and reminding our community that we are all part of the same team," Lemoine said.

Lemoine said the success of the fifth annual event was made possible through the participation and support of residents, volunteers and community partners.

"Our community is the reason we are here, and last night was a great example of what we can accomplish when we come together," Lemoine said.

Through continued partnerships between law enforcement, first responders and community organizations, National Night Out serves as a reminder that building a safer, stronger community begins with the relationships formed among those who live and serve there.
