Hollister hosts community at their inaugural Night Out event

The city of Hollister hosted an evening to bring together the community and those who serve and protect them. 

On Thursday, Aug. 27, the City of Hollister, city staff, the Hollister Police Department, alongside community partners hosted its first Night Out event at Braden Recreational Complex.

Hollister Mayor Jeff Long said he was excited to see so many people out to celebrate the community and meet their first responders. 

“I am thrilled with the turnout we have today,” Long said. “This is an opportunity for everyone to come see all the improvements at Braden Park, while getting to know the police and fire fighters who protect them. The city staff is doing a phenomenal job hosting it. I am so happy to see so many kids here interacting and meeting first responders.”

Long said not only did the event showcase city staff and the first responders, but gave the community a chance to see all the improvements to the park. Upgrades which recently took place at Braden Recreational Complex included resurface to the pickleball courts, as well as add two additional courts and installation of a new sidewalk along the parking lot and to the court area.  

“Our pickleball courts look great,” Long said. “We have had a positive response to the resurfaced and new courts. We have Chris Pingleton over there playing right now. He is from Florida. He says he just likes the court. He’s played here the last few weeks because of our quality courts. Our league is really happy with the quality of the court.”

Hollister City Alderman Chris Carlson said events like the Night Out show the heart of Hollister.

“Events like Hollister Night Out are not only a great way for community members to meet and get to know their officials and city employees, but also to see the community at work as a whole. One of the things I love about Hollister, is that we collectively show up: whether it be an event like this, one of our wonderful fall festivals, or any of the other holiday events, folks from all walks of life take part,” Carlson said. “That’s who we are, and that’s what Hollister is about.”
