Fatal motorcycle crash claims life of Cape Fair man

A Friday evening motorcycle ride ended in tragedy near Cape Fair after a 34-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Missouri 76.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 7:15 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, about one mile east of Cape Fair in Stone County. The name of the driver had not been released at the time of publication.

The patrol reported the Cape Fair man was traveling east on Missouri 76 on a 2002 Harley-Davidson Sportster 1200 when he failed to negotiate a curve. The motorcycle left the left side of the roadway, struck a ditch and overturned.

The driver was ejected from the motorcycle and struck a stop sign. Stone County Coroner Jerry Jenkins pronounced him dead at the scene at 8:11 p.m.

According to the crash report, the driver was not using a safety device at the time of the crash. The motorcycle was totaled and removed from the scene by Whitworth Towing.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Cpl. J.S. Schwartz investigated the crash. The patrol reported that the driver's next of kin had been notified.

The death marked the 84th traffic fatality investigated by Troop D in 2026.
