Clothed in Grace Community Closet brings clothing, compassion and hope to local families

A new community ministry is working to make a difference in the lives of local families by providing more than just clothing. Clothed in Grace Community Closet, founded by Jessica Rickman, was created with a mission to serve others with dignity, kindness and compassion while putting faith into action.

Rickman said the idea for the community closet came from her own family's experiences of receiving help during times of need. Those experiences inspired her to create a place where others could receive the same kind of support and encouragement.

“I am starting the Clothed in Grace Community Closet to be the hands and feet of God in blessing others as God has blessed my family in times of need,” Rickman shared. The closet is designed to provide clean and organized clothing and essential items to individuals and families who need assistance. However, Rickman said the ministry is about much more than meeting a physical need.

The goal is to create an environment where people feel welcomed and respected, regardless of their circumstances. Clothed in Grace Community Closet strives to be a place where families can feel seen, supported and loved without fear of judgment.

At the heart of the organization is Rickman's desire to demonstrate Christ's love through practical acts of service. “A place where Christ’s love is shown in a very real and practical way,” is how Rickman describes the mission behind the closet.

The response from the community has already been overwhelming. Donations have poured in from people wanting to support the new ministry and help ensure local families have access to necessities when they need them. Because of the generosity of the community, Clothed in Grace Community Closet has temporarily paused accepting additional donations. The pause will allow Rickman and volunteers time to sort and organize the items already received and create additional space for the many blessings that have been donated.

Rickman emphasized that anyone who has already made arrangements to meet and drop off donations should still follow through with those scheduled plans. The organization plans to reopen donations once the current inventory has been sorted and organized. The early response demonstrates the generosity and willingness of the community to come together to support a ministry focused on helping others.

Rickman expressed her gratitude to everyone who has donated, volunteered, helped with the ministry or prayed for its success. As Clothed in Grace Community Closet continues to grow, its mission remains simple: meet people where they are, provide needed essentials with dignity, and remind families that they are not alone. Through clothing, compassion and faith, Rickman hopes the ministry will continue being a tangible expression of God's love throughout the community.
