City of Crane proclaims September 11, 2026, a “9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance”

The City of Crane has officially proclaimed September 11, 2026, as a “9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance,” calling on residents to honor the victims and heroes of September 11, 2001, through remembrance, community service and acts of kindness.

Mayor J. Collin Brannan signed the proclamation on August 3, recognizing the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, as well as the extraordinary courage and selflessness demonstrated by firefighters, police officers, emergency medical technicians and ordinary citizens. The proclamation also recognizes the spirit of patriotism, compassion and resilience that brought Americans together following the attacks.

City Clerk Tina Didreckson and Crane Chief of Police Mike Cupp are spearheading the community's Day of Service and the service activities that will follow, working with local organizations, businesses and volunteers to turn remembrance into positive action throughout the community.

To put that proclamation into action, Crane will hold a community 9/11 Day of Remembrance on Friday, September 11, 2026, at the Crane City Park Band Stand, 107 Myrna Lewers Parkway, starting at 8:30 a.m.

The community event will include an inspirational speaker and showcase opportunities for residents and students to participate in service and remembrance activities, including food bagging, letter writing for military members, veterans and first responders, bell ringing and remembrance, student art and other community service projects.

The September 11 event will launch a larger community service effort. Residents, businesses, churches, neighborhoods, civic organizations and other groups will be encouraged to undertake their own acts of service through October 4, including participation in Missouri Good Neighbor Week, September 28–October 4, 2026.

A community food drive benefiting the North Stone County Food Pantry will be part of the effort, with shelf-stable food collected at locations throughout Crane.

The City's proclamation encourages citizens to observe September 11 through community service and a moment of silence honoring the victims and heroes of that day.

All are welcome to attend the September 11 event at the Crane City Park. Bring your family, friends, a chair and a heart to serve. In the event of rain, it will be held under the pavilion.

Community partners include the City of Crane, Discover Crane, North Stone County Food Pantry, Sun Fest Market and Stone County Library.
