The Society of Ozarkian Hillcrofters is excited to announce their featured performers for this year’s Cabin Fever music fundraiser, "Big Smith." One of the most popular bands ever to come out of the Ozarks, they will reunite on Saturday, February 28, at 7 p.m. at the Branson Event Center located at the Shoppes at the Meadows. Big Smith formed in 1996 and went on to open for Emmylou Harris, Doc Watson and the Del McCoury Band. A 2005 documentary, “Homemade Hillbilly Jam,” introduced Big Smith to an international audience, but for us Ozarkers, Big Smith will always belong first and foremost. Songs like “Trash,” “No Sir-No Sir,” “Backwater,” “Big Rock (on Bull Creek),” and “My Overalls Don’t Fit Me Anymore,” are a part of our Ozarks culture. This is your opportunity to celebrate the music and the legendary performers who created it.

Other groups who will join the celebration are the young musicians of the Reeds Spring Ramblers, Ozark Mountain Applejacks, and MO-ARK. These talented young people have all benefited from the expert instruction of the Ozark Mountain Music Association or OMMA, and they will preserve the music of the hills for generations yet to come.
Tickets for Cabin Fever are on sale now through the Hillcrofters’ website: societyofozarkianhillcrofters.com. Tickets for non-members are $20 for adults and $10 for kids twelve and under; kids four and under are free. Tickets for current members are included in the membership; one adult guest and kids of members pay half price: $10 for one adult guest and $5 for kids twelve and under. Kids four and under are free. Proceeds from Cabin Fever will go to the restoration of the Meadows School House in northern Taney County, the Ozarks Mountain Music Association and other projects of the Hillcrofters.
The mission of the Society of Ozarkian Hillcrofters is “to preserve the traditions, history and natural environment of the Ozarks through conservation, restoration, publications and education.” An individual membership is $48 per year and includes the quarterly, full-color journal, “The Ozarkian Hillcrofter,” as well as free entry to all Hillcrofter events.
