Branson names new fire chief

The City of Branson has hired a new fire chief.

After careful consideration, Chris Zaremba has been selected to lead the Branson Fire Rescue crew, beginning in September.

Zaremba will fill the position left vacant when Ted Martin retired in April. Charlie Huston has served as interim fire chief since that time.

Zaremba is a veteran firefighter and leader, who hails from Illinois. Zaremba has more than 25 years of fire service leadership. He began as a volunteer firefighter. In 1999 Zaremba joined the Champaign, Illinois, Fire Department, where he was promoted to deputy chief and later to battalion chief. For 17 years, Zaremba served on the Executive Board of Champaign Firefighters, and held the position of president for 12 years.

Zaremba has continuously placed an emphasis on mentorship, training and professional development.  

"Chris Zaremba brings the experience, character and dedication needed to lead Branson Fire Rescue," said Mayor Larry Milton on the City's official website. "Public safety is one of our highest priorities, and we are confident he will continue the department's strong tradition of serving our residents, businesses and visitors with professionalism and care."

City Administrator Cathy Stepp added, "Chris brings more than an impressive record of service. He brings a genuine understanding of people. He has led emergency operations, developed firefighters, managed complex department responsibilities and represented his fellow firefighters. That well rounded experience, along with his collaborative approach makes him the right leader for Branson Fire Rescue and our community."

Zaremba also received a warm welcome from Nate Jones on behalf of the Branson Professionals Shop of IAFF Local 152.
