I had the honor of attending this show with a veteran and his wife from Wisconsin, who are also friends of John and me. We all truly enjoyed this show and it brought tears to our eyes. I had a chance to visit with Dan and his wife after the show. Here are some of the interview highlights. Not being a veteran myself, but a former EMT and being recognized, is humbling. And, Dan does a fine job of it.
How was the idea for this show conceived?
In 2024, I wrote a song about how we love and appreciate veterans here in Branson. I titled it, “Another Hero is Coming Home.” I began singing the song during the Hughes Brothers Dinner Show and began giving away CD copies of the song to all the veterans and their families at the show. Last year in 2025, we gave away in excess of 5,000 copies. Building on that success, we created the concept based on that song.
It’s a combination of the three best things to sing about: Jesus, Momma and the great American Hero—whether that be a veteran or first responder (law enforcement, EMT or firefighter).
When is this show presented?
Come see this wonderful, caring show next Monday, June 8, at 5 p.m. at the Hughes Brothers Theater. You will be so glad that you did. Grab a family member, friend or someone off the street that you just met!
What can we expect?
An emotional tribute to American heroes. Including moving videos and speeches from former presidents, ending in Daniel’s heartfelt message of honor and respect to all American Heroes.
Our mission is to:
Celebrate those who came home.
Pray for those who are not home.
Remember those who did not come home.
How long has Dan been performing?
After a childhood of abuse, his daddy’s alcoholism and the divorce of his parents, he moved into Grandma's house at age 11 and began learning to sing and play the guitar she bought him. This ended up taking him to join Gospel quartets like Dixie Melody Boys, Gold City and The Blackwoods here in Branson. Now singing for 46 years, traveling in every state in the continental USA, Canada, Mexico and ending up in Paris performing at The American Cathedral in Paris, he has enjoyed this journey of honoring and sharing.
Please share any other information you wish.
Dan had performed with The Baldknobbers Show for six years.
Below is a list of Dan’s notable awards and accolades:
● 1991 Campbell’s Ozarks Country Jubilee
● Inductee GMA Gospel Music Hall of Fame
● Branson’s 2019 Male Vocalist of the Year
During the show Dan has his wife join him onstage to tell a bit about their story together and how they met, then they sing a few songs together. Their story is touching in itself.
I cannot say enough about this wonderful show. You don't want to miss out!
