Walkers Branson: Tacos, zombies, mutations, oh, my!

SUBMITTED BY KIM STEELE

Where else other than Branson, Missouri, can you sit in Transylvania and discuss zombies and mutations? Transylvania as in Transylvania Bakery and Café at 104 N. Commercial Street in downtown Branson. (They have lots of good eats you can sink your teeth into.) I had the pleasure of sitting down with William and Jamie Doughty, owners of Walkers Branson.

William and Jamie, originally from Kansas City, now make Branson their home along with their blended family of seven children. The couple’s love of tacos and zombie games inspired them to take that passion to a whole new level. Walkers Branson opened in March of this year and already has gained over 27,000 Facebook followers since opening their doors.

Walkers isn’t your typical walking taco; it’s an experience! You have your choice of walking tacos with a large variety of chips and toppings, BYOC (Bring Your Own Container) and fill it to your desire; $10 for a container 12 inches or under and anything over 12 inches is a dollar per inch. People have been daring with their BYOCs and have brought in sombreros, wagons, kiddy pools and even customized BBQ grill lids with cup holders and wheels! (What will you bring in?)

Bring your appetite for the chipapocalypse which consists of a full-size bag of chips and toppings that weighs from five to seven pounds. For $29.99 you’ll have twenty minutes to devour this epic beast! Two hundred dollars cash is your reward if you can conquer the challenge. Mutation station is another challenge if you have the guts to try it. Spin the mutation wheel and see what creepy thing your challenge lands on. Mutation examples are bug kabobs, jungle bugs, pig brains with milk gravy, tarantulas, scorpions and a few other wild things. Walkers’ Facebook page has so many videos of the brave souls who have stepped up to the challenge.

Walkers Branson is located in Historic Downton Branson at 112 West Main Street. Current hours: Monday – Thursday 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.; Friday - Sunday 11 a.m. – 10 p.m.
