Forsyth Fire Department is taking sealed bids to repair damaged fire station
The Forsyth Fire Department will be moving forward to get repairs done on one of their fire stations after a car crashed into the building in July.
The City of Forsyth is accepting sealed bids to repair work to be performed at the Fire Station 2, located at 1050 Skyline Drive. The building was damaged in a hit and run incident on July 29, 2026. The damage to the fire station occurred when a vehicle struck the building causing damage and left the scene.
At the Sept. 21 aldermen meeting, Forsyth Fire Chief Nathan Bower said the city received its report from a structural engineer with the city’s insurance company.
“There are some issues that need to be addressed due to the impact because it’s not just at the front,” Bower said. “So when it took an impact, it hit the front and that transferred all the way through the station. That’s what he (the structural engineer) was looking at to make sure that there were no additional issues other than the red iron issues. The bulk of it is on the front side. There’s some horizontal beams, red iron beams, that have to be replaced. There’s some bolts that are actually missing. The integrity is there, but it still needs to be addressed and fixed at this time.”

Bower asked the aldermen to accept dates to get the work done before winter hits to ensure the work can be finished before bad weather.
Now until Oct. 15 at 3 p.m. all qualified contractors are invited to submit proposals in coordination with the requirements outlined by the city. The requirements can be found on the city’s social media pages or by visiting Forsyth City Hall, located at 15405 US-160.
The repairs needed are due to a vehicle impacting the west wall of the structure which caused an opening in the brick veneer and metal panel wall exposing the living quarters. According to the city of Forsyth, approximately 275 square feet of brick veneer was damaged.
“The vehicle impact caused cracking in the drywall at the west wall of the living quarters and in the ceiling near the west wall of the living quarters,” said the city in a statement. “The vehicle impact caused two wood frame columns to the north of the jamb to fracture and separate from the bottom plate. The north entryway door frame jamb and the lowest girt at the north end of the entry were damaged and require replacement. The columns and other framing members on the south side of entryway, near the southwest corner, were concealed and unable to be examined at the time of the inspection, but should be examined when replacing the members noted above.”
The Forsyth Police investigated the hit and run, and on Aug. 3 the suspect vehicle was located and collected by the police. On Aug. 4, the police department made an arrest on the sole person responsible in the incident. The arrest resulted in charges of leaving the scene of an accident and felony property damage. During an interview the suspect provided a full confession to the incident.
