Crane School to honor local veterans during annual celebration, Nov. 6
BY SARAH POWELL, Staff Writer
Crane School will host its annual Veterans Day assembly on Friday, Nov. 6, 2026, inviting the community to come together to recognize and honor the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces.
The event will begin at 1 p.m. in the Crane High School gymnasium and will feature an all-school assembly sponsored by the Crane High School Student Council. The gathering will provide students and staff with an opportunity to express their gratitude to local veterans and recognize the sacrifices made by those who have served their country.
Following the assembly, the Crane JAG organization will host a reception in the school cafeteria for veterans and their families. The reception will offer an opportunity for attendees to visit, connect with others and continue celebrating the individuals who have dedicated themselves to serving the nation.
Crane School encourages veterans throughout the community to attend and participate in the celebration. Veterans who wish to be formally recognized during the event are asked to sign in at the gym lobby between 12:30 and 1 p.m.
The annual assembly serves as an important opportunity to help students understand the significance of Veterans Day and the importance of honoring those who have defended the nation's freedoms. Through events like this, the school community can show its appreciation while teaching younger generations about service, sacrifice and patriotism.
The school invites veterans, their families and community members to join in making this year's celebration meaningful for everyone involved.
For additional information about the event, contact Karen Faucett at faucettk@crane.k12.mo.us or call 417-723-5300.
Crane School looks forward to welcoming local veterans and their families for an afternoon dedicated to gratitude, remembrance and recognition of their service to the country.

Galena R-II named 2026 Outstanding Rural School District
BY SARAH POWELL, Staff Writer
Galena R-II School District is celebrating a tremendous accomplishment after being named the 2026 Outstanding Rural School District by the Missouri Association of Rural Education.
The prestigious recognition highlights the hard work, dedication and commitment that make Galena R-II a special place for students, families and educators. The award recognizes schools that demonstrate excellence in serving their students and communities while providing meaningful opportunities for learning and growth in a rural setting.
For Galena R-II, the recognition represents more than an award. It is a reflection of the combined efforts of teachers, administrators, support staff, students, families and community members who work together every day to create a positive educational environment.
As the district shared in its announcement, the recognition celebrates "the dedication of our staff, the accomplishments of our students and the support of our families and community."
The district also emphasized its commitment to ensuring that every student is known, valued and given opportunities to succeed. That commitment is an important part of building a school environment where students can discover their strengths, develop their talents and prepare for the future.
Small rural schools often serve as the heart of their communities, providing more than an education. They create connections, build lasting relationships, encourage community involvement and help shape the next generation of local leaders.
Galena R-II's recognition is a reminder of what can be accomplished when educators, families and communities work together toward a shared goal.
The award is an accomplishment the entire Galena community can celebrate, and it reflects the pride and dedication that make the district a special place to learn and grow.
Congratulations to the students, faculty, staff, families and community members of Galena R-II on this well-deserved honor!
