Discover Crane hosts Chicken Chase 5K
Discover Crane hosted the Second Annual Chicken Chase 5K and 1 Mile Walk on Saturday, August 22.
“We are so excited that our second annual event was an even bigger success than last year,” Discover Crane Director Staci Young said.
There was a total of 113 registrants of all ages involved in the race. Of the 113 participants, 84 were 5K runners and 29 were one-mile walkers.
“It was great to see people get up early with smiles on their faces. They showed up for a great cause, to get their bodies moving, and to have fun with other people,” Kadee DeCourley, one of the event organizers, said.
The race raised more than $2,700. Discover Crane’s board members decided to give the proceeds to the Crane City Pool for the 2027 summer operating season.
“Our purpose is to help make Crane the best it can be. We believe our pool is a big part of that!” Young said. “We are the only community in Stone County that still has a city pool and we want to help keep it going for generations to come.”
Race organizers acknowledge that this event would not have been possible without the generous support of sponsors. Sixteen businesses and organizations provided sponsorships. CoxHealth was the primary sponsor of the event and gave a $500 sponsorship. Discover Crane would like to express their gratitude to Dwight Crume Auction Service, Chris Hammen Shelter Insurance, EtchWorks Design and Decor, Stockmens Bank, CSCO, BA Land Management, Oaxaca Mexican Restaurant, Simmons Bank, Table Rock Lake Community Bank, K and B Equipment, American Family Insurance and Stone County Health Department for their sponsorships. SunFest Market donated water and bananas. APC Photography supported the race by providing photos of the event.
Stockmens Bank graciously donated bags for each runner. Crane First Baptist Church, Table Rock Community Bank, Chris Hammen Shelter Insurance and Stone County Health Department provided giveaway items to be placed in runners’ bags.
“We cannot say enough about the generosity of this community,” DeCourley said.
“Thank you to each and every business and organization that stepped up for this cause. We appreciate you!”
Our Stone County came alongside Discover Crane as a new partner, not only in this event but also future Discover Crane events.
“Together, we share the privilege of making sure our county remains a place people are proud to call home,” Young said.
