Technology has reduced the workforce at CoxHealth, eliminating 53 workers involved in manual medical coding. According to a news release from CoxHealth, these tasks have been automated.
The health system’s goal is to modernize technologies and streamline services from scheduling to billing, to make it easier for patients to navigate care.
“Those investments are working. Technology has taken on work that once required significant manual effort, giving our teams more capacity to focus on the people and communities we serve.”
Many of the 53 affected employees will transition to new opportunities within the health system, but for the the remaining employees, resources will be provided.
Those resources include career coaching, resume and interview assistance, and financial assistance for education or certifications especially in technology.
CoxHealth has engaged Mostly Serious, a Springfield-based digital services agency, to assist employees.
“The Mostly Serious team provides education on human-first AI that helps professionals build skills in everything from research and content creation to productivity and sales. Those skills and more will be key as employers increasingly adopt AI solutions designed to improve efficiency and give teams more time, so they can focus on the work only humans can do,” according to the release.
